NEEC - CENTER OF EDUCATION AND CONTINUING EXTENSION
The basic construction dos NEECs is a regular prismatic volume featuring a large roof that houses a teaching block – up to three floors, with classrooms and administrative and pedagogical sectors – and an open living area, called “varandão” – large space for curricular and extracurricular activities and promotion for the community (sports, meetings, presentations, cinema, etc). The use of steel is a conceptual option that reaffirms the steelmaking vocation of Minas Gerais, taking advantage of the wealth of the subsoil and the state's industrial park.
The steel prefabrication ensured an easy transport system and on-site assembly, reducing schedules and costs, when carried out at scale, as proposed for these schools. It allows large spans, according to the program, adaptability to different topographic conditions and ease of physical expansion.
Os NEECs constitute a wide-ranging pedagogical program, aimed at students and their families, whose architecture seeks to meet a programming of spaces with adequate rationalization of construction systems.
