Sede da ABM – Associação Brasileira de Metalurgia, Materiais e Mineração
We intend was to create a bold, technological building that respects nature, saves energy and creates humanized space.
Abm’s new building cannot mean just functional expansion. it is in essence a demonstration that the institution has a permanent mission of knowing how to interpret the world with regard to the new technological, social, and environmental challenges.
The new building draws a new image that hints at the future, using new structural possibilities, materials, and techniques.
The new aesthetic contrasts harmoniously with the existing building Aflalo, Croce, and Gasperini building, respecting their proportions and volumes in a dialogue of time. The link between the two parts of the headquarters is conspicuous in the prevalence of the structural system as representing the pathway of the association and the evolution of technology. The new building respects and reflects the requirements for the workplace and environmental balance.
Providing pleasant, bright spaces that improve the work and study environment and ensures its sustainability are key objectives.
The institution’s purposes are reaffirmed in the new construction and build its public image.
The new building rises from the floor level, free of obstacles, free for multiple recreational and contemplation functions. in the midst of a densely built urban environment, it offers green space, restoring a large area of a covered garden, which will serve the two buildings. Their volumetry is integrated harmoniously with the existing building: a dialogue of curves with straight lines, creating a dynamic environment in which the horizontal lines predominant.
The elliptical shape provides a maximum use of natural light, while the overhang protects the building from climatic influences, such as direct sunlight. A translucent metal mesh forms a protective peripheral cover filtering of the outside light and undesirable views. Inside, however, everything remains fluid and integrated.
A black smoke stack stands out above the roof, marking the border and generating a new benchmark in the neighborhood. The element that has always characterized the pollution, the emission of gases is here, the symbol of an intelligent and sustainable system. The smoke stack figures as key piece of bioclimatic ventilation system, with low energy consumption and maintenance.
